John Lennon started his first band named as “The Quarrymen” which later on evolved into “The Beatles” in 1960. During the height of his career in the band “The Beatles”, he made critically acclaimed albums, including John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band and Imagine, and iconic songs such as “Give Peace a Chance” and “Imagine”.
John Lennon went out of the music industry in 1975 to devote time to his family. He then later reemerged in 1980 with a comeback album, Double Fantsay, his best-selling studio album at three million shipments in the US which won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 1981. However, three weeks after its release, he was murdered.
John Lennon’s songs made it to the top charts not only in the United States but all over the world. In the United States alone, Lennon’s solo album sales stand at 14 million units making him one of the greatest singers of all time. His songwriting partnership with Paul McCartneyis acknowledged as one of the most influential and successful of the 20th century.
